sometimes people ask if my older sister and i are close, and you know what? i have to say yes, although we are not close in what i think of as a typical sisterly way. it took two months for her to tell me about the guy she is dating, and it took me three to tell her about someone who i was intrigued with at the time. but you know what? this is why we’re close: we can study together for hours without talking much and it’s as comfortable as an intimate conversation. when we’re driving in the car together i know what music to play to make her want to sing along. we know minute details of each other’s pasts and how the other likes her toast. we fill out all the pieces of each other that have been missing since birth. and yeah, so what she didn’t tell me about the guy she was dating for two months? i guessed they were together within the first week, back when even she wasn’t sure about it herself.
